Russell, Bay of Islands

Russell was the first capital of NZ and is a small, historic seaside village situated on a peninsula in the eastern Bay of Islands. Despite being accessible via road, it has an island quality and charm, with views of the surrounding bays from every angle.

The wharf, built in 1879, allows access via foot ferry to Paihia, or you can enjoy what Russell centre has to offer with local waterfront restaurants, cafes and shops.

There is always a great community atmosphere in this area, with people out and about, enjoying the wonderful views and ambience.
